Foster Dog Store
| We are devoted pet owners who love to rescue animals and foster pets. We would love to hear from customers who have taken in rescues or are currently fostering pets to share ideas on how to save dogs who may otherwise be put down in the pound and to make them more sociable in our homes. This part of our site contains the tried and tested products are fellow foster parents have found the most practical or fun for their pets. Let us know which ones you would like to see here or your feedback on what we have.
If you have no idea where to begin with your new dog or foster, but can't wait to save that dog from the pound, check this page for tips.
• Our first recommendation is that you get a crate and let your pet adjust slowly from the shelter to a busy house with different noises. Too much space could be overwhelming. It can take days or even weeks for your pet to adjust to you and feel safe. Many shelter pets come with no background or history. Sometimes you do not know if there is fear, abuse or separation anxiety from owners. The pound can be a pretty scary place. Some dogs thrive in just about any environment, but take time to know the personality of your new pet.
• Why do we have so many dog treats on this page? Don't spoil your new pet by any means, but treats are a terrific way to train your pet in basic demands. You should never hit your pet. Not all pets learn at quick speeds so you may have to be patient. Treats help make training time enjoyable for you and your pet. Note that you should try to tailor the size of your treat to the size of your pet. Not all puppies are the same size. Very small or toy dogs may work better with itty bitty treats like some of our buddy buscuits. Treats that are too small might present a choking hazard for larger puppies. We have a foster pitbull mix puppy that is over 40 pounds! She does better with a larger treat such as the larger buddy buscuit. The happy hip treat takes a little longer to chew and can be good to lure your pet back into his or her crate.
